All stakeholders should be engaged to find a way to responsibly raise wages to better match the cost of living in the Twin Cities and our north and northeastern neighbors. This is a very hard policy choice and I don’t have a clear policy direction I’ve considered because I think this has to be a discussion driven by local stakeholders. I believe it is a market failure if the cost of living is too high for many people to afford the basic requirements of life. I believe it is the role of government to address market failures with policy action. So, I favor a living wage but believe there must be a plan to protect tip-earners, and extended support must be provided to small and at-risk businesses to ensure they are able to raise wages within an extended implementation period.
